Sahaidachnyi Security Center
As a result of Russia’s war on Ukraine, the country is confronted with unprecedented security challenges. At the same time we face a critical non-understanding of Ukraine, its crucial place and role in the European security architecture and internationally. Recognizing the critical need for high-quality analytics and informed decision-making both inside Ukraine and internationally, we established this think tank to address these gaps.
Our team consists of experts with a diverse background in public sector reforms, international relations, and advocacy. We are a part of the civil society community that has been compelled to focus on defense and security transformations. Our mission is to provide top officials in Ukraine and worldwide with strategic recommendations on security and defense issues in and around Ukraine.
The Sahaidachnyi Security Center is named after Petro Sahaidachnyi – a prominent hetman, reformer, and true architect of the Ukrainian army. This historical figure has become a symbol of strength, strategic thinking, and national revival.
Sahaidachnyi’s legacy is a unique fusion of military prowess and a profound understanding of the importance of education and national consciousness.
In the 17th century, Sahaidachnyi not only united the fragmented Cossack forces into a powerful military and political force, but also laid the foundations of a new philosophy of security. His victorious campaigns – including those against Moscovia – demonstrated the might and determination of the Ukrainian army, coupled with strategic superiority. Yet the true greatness of Sahaidachnyi lies not only in the sword, but in the word.
His contribution to the development of education and humanitarian thought marked a turning point in the formation of the nation’s intellectual potential. He understood that only a society armed with knowledge is capable of defending itself not just physically, but also ideologically.
These two pillars – knowledge and defense – are embedded in the DNA of the Sahaidachnyi Security Center.
