Rebuilding Ukraine and Security: Lesia Ogryzko’s Speech in the European Parliament

On March 26, a discussion titled “Rebuilding Ukraine, Securing Europe: The Role of Security in Reconstruction” took place in the European Parliament, aimed at addressing the issues of Ukraine’s reconstruction and its security. Panelists, including Members of the European Parliament and representatives of European institutions, repeatedly emphasized that security is a key element in Ukraine’s recovery and the stability of all of Europe. Security, reconstruction, and European integration must progress together.

Lesia Ogryzko, Director of the Sahaidachnyi Security Center, in her speech, emphasized that ensuring Ukraine’s defense capability today creates the foundation for sustainable recovery tomorrow: “This can be achieved through three key areas:

  • Real security guarantees for Ukraine, which depend on a strong Ukrainian army and self-sufficient defense production;
  • Air defense — a critically important element for protecting infrastructure and the population;
  • The ability to strike deep into Russian territory, destroying military bases used for devastating attacks.”

In her speech, Lesia Ogryzko paid special attention to air defense as a link between defense and reconstruction: “Air defense is the most important chain, as it protects Ukraine’s main resource — its people, social infrastructure, and energy system, the significance of which for the economy, trade, and stability cannot be overstated.”

Ukraine’s victory is not only a condition for recovery but also a determining factor for Europe’s stability.
