Seminar on European Partners of NATO and the EU with the Participation of Sahaidachnyi Security Center

On February 5, 2025, a high-level closed seminar “NATO and EU Partnership Policy” took place in Brussels, Belgium. Organized by the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR) in collaboration with the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, the event served as a platform for discussing the future of security partnerships in Europe.

The Director of the Sahaidachnyi Security Center, Lesia Ogryzko, participated in the seminar and delivered a speech on the challenges and potential pathways for strengthening European security.

Key Topics of Discussion

Participants analyzed the evolution of defense and security partnerships in the context of the war in Ukraine, as well as the future of NATO-EU strategic cooperation.

“The time has come not only to respond to threats but to shape a new security system in Europe. Ukraine must become a key pillar of this new architecture as the country with the largest and strongest army on the continent,” emphasized Lesia Ogryzko.

She also highlighted the importance of decisive action:
“Europe must demonstrate strength, not weakness, and respond to multiple Russian sabotage attempts and provocations at sea and in NATO airspace. Inaction only emboldens the aggressor.”

Proposals and Key Takeaways

During the seminar, participants put forward several proposals to strengthen security partnerships, including:

  • The implementation of a humanitarian air shield for Ukraine
  • Enhanced control over the Baltic Sea
  • The integration of Ukraine and other Eastern European partners into the European security framework

Following the discussions in Brussels, participants underscored the need for more decisive actions from NATO and the EU and concluded that strategic partnerships must be reconsidered. The West must be prepared for a more proactive stance against Russian provocations.

We sincerely appreciate the opportunity to take part in this important event!
