On May 1 in Truskavets, the Sahaidachnyi Security Center in cooperation with European Council on Foreign Relations will host a panel discussion as part of the annual Carpathian Sea Democracy Week – a forum that brings together Ukrainian and European leaders to strengthen partnerships, seek solutions, and jointly foster the resilience of democratic societies.
The panel discussion, titled “The Future of European Security: Are Coalitions of the Willing the Answer?”, will address key security challenges facing Europe more than three years into Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. In a world where diplomatic declarations are no longer enough, the need for coordinated and tangible action has become critical.
Recognizing this urgency, our discussion will focus on concrete steps to enhance European unity and bolster Ukraine’s resilience.
Key topics will include:
– the recently adopted EU White Paper on Defence,
– the European Sky Shield Initiative,
– and the prospects for a European military presence on the ground.
In this evolving security landscape, coalitions of the willing have gained growing importance. Our panel will explore how these coalitions contribute to reinforcing European security and countering Russian aggression. Special attention will be given to the Nordic-Baltic 8 (NB8) — its practices, lessons learned, and its potential role in shaping Europe’s broader security architecture.
