On May 22–23, 2025, the international conference “The Future Russian Way of War” held in Stockholm and organized by the Stockholm Centre for Eastern European Studies (SCEEUS) at the Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI), with support from Riksbankens Jubileumsfond (RJ).
The event brought together experts, policymakers, and practitioners from partner countries to discuss how Russia might transform its military and hybrid tools in the future — against the backdrop of its war on Ukraine and the West.
Sahaidachnyi Security Center was represented at the conference by Senior Fellow Olena Davlikanova, who presented the findings of the study “Scenarios for Russia’s Development by 2032: A Decade After the Full-Scale Invasion of Ukraine.” Her presentation urged for strategic thinking about the future of the aggressor — without illusions of its potential and much-desired democratization.
“We must consider various scenarios for Russia’s future — even the least desirable ones — in order to prepare for all possible developments and avoid relying on ‘easy’ solutions,” emphasized Olena Davlikanova.
The participation of Ukrainian experts in high-level international events is not only about analytical work and advocacy. It is also about foreign policy presence, articulating Ukraine’s position, and conveying an objective picture of the war. Moreover, it is about strategic influence in shaping the global agenda — one where Ukraine’s interests must be properly taken into account.
