Lesia Ogryzko on a Possible Deal Between Trump and Putin
Sahaidachnyi Security Center was invited by the leading Austrian publication DER STANDARD to provide expert analysis on the challenges Ukraine faces in wartime and the prospects for ending the war.
Lesia Ogryzko expressed concerns about the potential consequences of a “deal” between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. According to the expert, Trump’s plans to end the war within 24 hours are highly unlikely:
“What will certainly happen is that Trump will quickly realize that his plan to end the war in 24 hours is unrealistic, and he will have to look for other solutions.”
One such alternative, according to Lesia Ogryzko, could be facilitating Ukraine’s accession to NATO, though this remains a complex issue.
On Security Guarantees for Ukraine
A key aspect of Ukraine’s future security policy must be the establishment of real guarantees that prevent Russia from using a ceasefire to rearm and launch further offensives.
“Ukraine will need real guarantees to ensure that Russia does not use a ceasefire to rearm and attack again,” commented Lesia Ogryzko.
One possible guarantee could be bilateral support from the nuclear states that signed the Budapest Memorandum.
On Nuclear Weapons
Interestingly, the discussion around Ukraine’s nuclear potential is no longer a taboo subject. Support for this idea is growing among the Ukrainian public, reflecting frustration with the West’s approach.
“Recent polls show that, for the first time since the full-scale invasion, the Ukrainian public sees possessing its own nuclear weapons as the best security guarantee. This demonstrates growing frustration with the West’s indecisive stance,” concluded Lesia Ogryzko in her commentary for DER STANDARD.
