On March 27, the conference “Winning the Future: Ukraine, Europe, and the Global Security Order” took place at the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine.

The event was organized by the Centre for Geopolitics of the University of Cambridge together with the organizations “Centre of Policy and Legal Reform”, “Reanimation Package of Reforms,” supported by the Hennadii Udovenko Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, with the assistance of the NATO Representation in Ukraine and DRI. The event was a continuation of the discussion initiated two months ago in Cambridge.

Participants included diplomats, parliamentarians, military personnel, foreign experts, and representatives of civil society organizations, who discussed security issues and possible scenarios for Ukraine’s development in the next decade.

The conference was opened by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Olexandr Mischenko, who thanked international partners for their support and emphasized: “We need long-term peace with reliable guarantees that will prevent the repetition of Russian aggression. This will ensure not only the territorial integrity of Ukraine in the future but also strengthen security on the European continent.”

Lesia Ogryzko, Director of Sahaidachnyi Security Center, spoke on the panel “Ukraine’s Defense and European Security: 2025 Strategies,” where she stressed the need to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capability: “European countries should abandon the attempt to adopt everything by consensus and move along the path of a coalition of the determined, those who understand security threats, are ready to respond to them, and are willing to further support Ukraine. These countries, as well as our state, will become the foundation for forming a new security architecture for Europe.”

Speeches were also made by the Director of the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine Hennadiy Nadolenko, Board Member of the NGO Centre of Policy and Legal Reform” Yulia Kyrychenko, and Director of the Centre for Geopolitics at the University of Cambridge Brendan Simms.

During the event, the organizers presented the analytical document “Winning the Future Policy Paper,” developed as part of the “Ukraine-2032 Scenarios” research. It was introduced by Victoria Vdovychenko and Olena Davlikanova. Victoria Vdovychenko stated: “Despite global efforts to achieve peace, security risks will not disappear just by a peace agreement. Europe must act decisively to preserve its role in shaping the global order after 2025. The ‘Winning the Future Policy Paper’ contains expanded recommendations prepared within the ‘Ukraine-2032 Scenarios’ study, which models possible future scenarios for Ukraine. Its purpose is to remind of the path to victory and a stable Europe while warning of risks and calling for renewed commitment to the principles of democracy.”

Conference participants emphasized the importance of consolidating international efforts in the fight against the aggressor to achieve sustainable peace and security in Europe.
