Why Ukraine Stands Strong: An Interview with Lesia Ogryzko for the British Channel Silicon Curtain

A new episode of Silicon Curtain features an interview with Lesia Ogryzko, Director of the Sahaidachnyi Security Center, titled “Understanding Ukraine’s Resilience and European Geopolitical Dynamics.”

The conversation explores the nature of Ukraine’s resilience, the real motives behind Russia’s aggression, Western vulnerabilities, and the broader challenges to European security.

Key message of the interview: Ukrainian society endures thanks to its historically developed capacity for self-organization — a strength the West would do well to learn from.

“Ukrainian society is inherently horizontal and network-based. This comes from centuries of history, during which Ukrainians learned not to trust central authority, as it was often hostile and repressive,”— explains Lesia Ogryzko.

According to Ogryzko, Russia’s war against Ukraine is a deliberate attempt to destroy Ukrainian agency, which fully crystallized after the Revolution of Dignity. At the same time, Ukraine’s decentralized, adaptive, and horizontally structured model of resistance may serve as an inspiration for Western democracies.
